Sale Knowledge Tree

Individual Learning

Individual One to One Tuition is at the core of our philosophy.

At Sale Knowledge Tree, we believe that every individual needs their lessons tailored specifically for them, and deserve the tutors full attention to guide and encourage them through the assignments.

Preparing a child for exams and for the future

Encouraging adults to improve their skills, either to help their children or for better job prospects

Whenever we are introduced to a new pupil, the first session is used for assessment. During this session we assess three main things:-

a)           Does the pupil feel relaxed and engaged with the Tutor?

b)           What does the pupil want to achieve from the sessions, and what is the ultimate goal?

c)           At what level is the pupil at this moment, and what is the potential for development?

a)           Does the pupil feel relaxed and engaged with the Tutor?

If the relationship between Pupil and Tutor is going to be fruitful and rewarding, the pupil must feel comfortable and trust the Tutor. Without this trust and respect for the tutor, the pupil will not respond to the guidance and encouragement, that is an essential part of the tutor's role.

b)          What does the pupil want to achieve from the sessions, and what is the ultimate goal?

The pupil must want to improve. Each session will be a challenge, and without the desire to improve and expand their knowledge, the pupil will not fulfil their true potential. The sessions are also used as a springboard for other work and assignments that must be completed by the individual, between sessions. Therefore the pupil will need self motivation in order to be successful. The pupil must also have a goal to aim for, and the tutor can only create a successful lesson plan, if there is a stated target. This could be to pass the "11 plus", or GCSE exams. It could be to improve their basic knowledge, or to achieve Literacy and Numeracy Level 2. Whatever the goal, the tutors at Sale Knowledge Tree have the skills and experience to make that goal a reality.

c)          At what level is the pupil at this moment, and what is the potential for development?

The lesson plan not only needs a goal, but also a starting point. To achieve this the tutor will use various methods and techniques to determine the pupils current level of attainment, and the individual's ability to progress.

Once the Assessment session is complete, the tutor will work with our Advice and Guidance experts, to build a personal lesson plan which will allow the pupil to work at a pace that is suitable for them, whilst at the same time being challenging and stimulating. This lesson plan is only a guiding summary for each session and will be assessed and revised after each session to ensure that the pupil achieves the maximum benefit.

The number of sessions required will discussed, but inevitably will be fluid arrangement dependent on the achievments of the pupil and the desire to continue.

Our tutors will be open and honest regarding whether or not further sessions are required, or desirable. If a pupil is not interested in improving, then there is no advantage for our tutors to continue. The demands for our tutors services are high, and giving tuition to unresponsive pupils, does not benefit the pupil or the tutor.

In reality, we have clients that continue with the sessions long after the stated goal has been achieved. Once the feeling of achieving that goal has been felt, the desire to learn more increases, and further goals are created.

Some of our clients have told us that it is not just about measurable targets, the self-confidence created from these achievements, has been extremely noticable.  This has not only led to a better self image, but in some cases our clients have directly attributed this to improved career prospects.
